People can seek to understand, remember the little things, keep their promises, clarify and fulfill expectations, and still fail to build reserves of trust if they are inwardly duplicitous.

inwardly: in your mind; secretly

duplicitous: dishonest in a way that is intended to make somebody believe something that is not true

conform: to behave and think in the same way as most other people in a group or society

oneness: the state of being completely united with somebody/something, or of being in complete agreement with somebody

One of the most important ways to manifest integrity is to be loyal to those who are not present. In doing so, we build the trust of those who are present. When you defend those who are absent, you retain the trust of those present.

duplicity: dishonest behavior that is intended to make somebody believe something that is not true

betray: to hurt somebody who trusts you, especially by lying to or about them or telling their secrets to other people

privileged: having special rights or advantages that most people do not have

strangle: to kill somebody by pressing their throat and neck hard, especially with your fingers

You treat everyone by the same set of principles. As you do, people will come to trust you. They may not at first appreciate the honest confrontational experiences such integrity might generate. Confrontation takes considerable courage, and many people would prefer to take the course of least resistance, belittling and criticizing, betraying confidences, or participating in gossip about others behind their backs.

belittle: to make somebody, or the things that somebody does, seem unimportant

reveal: to make something known to somebody

deceptive: likely to make you believe something that is not true

guile: the use of clever but dishonest behavior in order to trick people

Integrity also means avoiding any communication that is deceptive, full of guile, or beneath the dignity of people.

pity: a sad feeling caused by the pain and troubles of others

justified: having a good reason for doing something

uttermost: greatest; most extreme

farthing: in the past, a British coin worth one quarter of an old penny

wane: to become gradually weaker or less important

dejected: unhappy and disappointed

overdrawn: (of a person) having taken more money out of your bank account than you have in it
