Keeping a commitment or a promise is a major deposit; breaking one is a major withdrawal.

livelihood: a means of earning money in order to live

sparingly: in a way that is careful to use or give only a little of something

contingency: an event that may or may not happen; the fact that events are not certain

Occasionally, despite all my effort, the unexpected does come up, creating a situation where it would be unwise or impossible to keep a promise I have made. But I value that promise. I either keep it anyway, or explain the situation thoroughly to the person involved and ask to be released from the promise.

delegate: a person who is chosen or elected to represent the views of a group of people and vote and make decisions for them

Unclear expectations in the area of goals also undermine communication and trust.

undermine: to make something, especially somebody’s confidence or authority, gradually weaker or less effective

The cause of almost all relationship difficulties is rooted in conflicting or ambiguous expectations around roles and goals.

We create many negative situations by simply assuming that our expectations are self-evident and that they are clearly understood and shared by other people.
