近年香港有人將「太空油」依托咪酯混入煙油，透過電子煙吸食，至今三人疑似吸食後死亡。今年亦至少六十九人管有或售賣太空油被捕，較去年的九宗急劇增加。

太空油暫時只受《藥劑業及毒藥條例》監管，未列入為毒品。政府目標明年上半年將其列入《危險藥物條例》，加大罰則及阻嚇力。吸毒問題嚴重，醫療衛生界立法會議員林哲玄認為需要現在處理，相信透過「先訂立，後審議」方式，立法程序並不複雜，希望政府交代立法時間表。

Etomidate is an ultrashort-acting, non-barbiturate hypnotic intravenous anesthetic agent. Etomidate does not have any analgesic properties. It is administered only by intravenous route.

Barbiturates belong to the group of medicines called central nervous system depressants.

Some of the barbiturates may be used before surgery to relieve anxiety or tension. In addition, some of the barbiturates are used as anticonvulsants to help control seizures in certain disorders or diseases, such as epilepsy.
