Lunar Phase

月面形狀在一個月當中有著圓缺的周期性變化，若我們依此周期變化，從「望」到下次的「望」（或是從「朔」到下次的「朔」）定義為「一個月」的時間長短。這種命名一個月的方式就稱為「朔望月 」(約29.5天)。

在上弦月的形狀上往下延長一條線，可以得到字母 p (p，在法語中是 premier 「第一」的首字母) ，而在下弦月的形狀上向上延長一條線，則得到字母 d (d，在法語中是 dernier 「最後」的首字母)。

新月過後七天，是上弦月的月相。

月相的變化依序是朔、新月、眉月、上弦月、盈凸月、和滿月的相位，然後成為虧凸月、下弦月、殘月和晦。
