曾經採訪過很多風雲人物的記者馬可遜告訴我(作者)︰「有的人從來都不願意認真傾聽別人的話，所以他們無法在別人心目中留下美好的形象，他們從來不將自己的耳朵打開，只想著自己要說的那些話。」馬可遜還說︰「有些名人曾經對我說，善於言談的人並不是他們真正喜歡的，那些善於安靜傾聽的人才是他們真正欣賞的，有這種能力的人很少，比任何擁有其他優秀能力的人都要罕見。」
Isaac F. Marcosson, a journalist who interviewed hundreds of celebrities, declared that many people fail to make a favorable impression because they don't listen attentively. "They have been so much concerned with what they are going to say next that they do not keep their ears open..... Very important people have told me that they prefer good listeners to good talkers, but the ability to listen seems rather than almost any other good trait."
