別國的文物


The Rosetta Stone (羅塞塔石碑) is a broken part of a bigger stone slab (a thick plate). It has a message carved (刻) into it, written in three types of writing (called scripts). It was an important clue that helped experts learn to read Egyptian hieroglyphs (象形文字 [ˋhaiərəglif] a writing system that used pictures as signs).

One year ago a man took a pneumatic drill (風鑽) to the statue of a winged bull at the gates of the ancient city of Nineveh (古代亞述重鎮), near Mosul (摩蘇爾) in modern Iraq. It's one of countless treasures destroyed by vandals (蓄意破壞者) , militants or military action in the region in the past 15 years.
