Lorazepam (Oral)

This medication is used to treat anxiety. It belongs to a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines which act on the central nervous system to produce a calming effect. This drug works by enhancing the effects of a certain natural chemical in the body (GABA). Side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, loss of coordination, headache, nausea, blurred vision, change in sexual interest/ability, constipation, heartburn, or change in appetite.

GABA is a neurotransmitter that blocks impulses between nerve cells in the brain. Researchers suspect that GABA may boost mood or have a calming, relaxing effect on the nervous system.
