Too poor to be thin

Now, fast-food outlets are everywhere, which leads to a simple conclusion: junk food is cheap, so the poor eat junk food; ipso facto (by the very fact), the poor become fat. Obviously that is a bit of a generalization, but surely there is a kernel (core) of truth there.
