AF and stroke

Atrial fibrillation is a type of irregular heartbeat, often caused when the two upper chambers of the heart beat unpredictably and sometimes rapidly. These irregular heartbeats can cause blood to collect in the heart and potentially form a clot, which can travel to a person’s brain and cause a stroke.

中大醫學院為1700多名長者進行心房顫動篩查，發現有近7%有心房顫動……醫學院指出，及早發現病人有心房顫動的問題，可以減低中風的風險，計劃加強篩查和教育，及早提供治療。
