i) Patient in either sitting, standing, or side-lying position with arm relaxed at the side and elbow flexed.

ii) Draw an imaginary line 3 fingerbreadths (2.5 - 5 cm) below the lower edge of the acromion process.

iii) Angle needle slightly toward the acromion process or at a 90-degree angle.
