Electro-Focus Short back focus means the lens has a shorter distance between the rear element and the sensor than regular EF lenses.

Largest aperture is f/3.5 at the 18mm focal length.

Largest aperture is f/5.6 at the 55mm focal length.

The image stabilization system can reduce camera shake by up to four stops, allowing for sharper handheld shots in low light conditions.

The II version has a slightly better image quality, especially at the wide end, with less distortion, chromatic aberration (色差), and vignetting.
