Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is altered organ function in acutely ill patients that requires medical intervention to support continued organ function. It is another phase in the progression of shock states...It is estimated that MODS has an associated mortality rate as high as 75% (Schulman, 2003)...As previously described, in shock, all organ systems suffer damage from a lack of adequate (tissue) perfusion that can result in organ failure.
