Izanagi's Spear and Japanese Mythology

Once upon a time, the male and female deities Izanagi and Izanami came down to a watery world from Takamagahara to create land. Droplets from Izanagi's 'spear' solidified into the land now known as Japan, and Izanami and Izanagi then populated it with kami.
